Boulware Scores with Tiger Bay
Jul 29, 2008 - Tallahassee Democrat

Maybe it's because so many Seminole fans are members of the Capital Tiger Bay Club.

Or maybe a lot of them are sore about how Tiger Bay member Fred Varn was bounced off the primary ballot by fellow Democrat Michele Rehwinkel Vasilinda's lawsuit, which successfully flagged him for not filing his school board resignation on time.

Or maybe it's because Republican Peter Boulware made a strong presentation at the club's luncheon forum this week at the Silver Slipper.

Boulware, seeking the District 9 House seat, swamped all competitors in the straw ballot that Tiger Bay conducts after its political debates and speeches. He polled 51 votes to 20 for Vasilinda, 10 for independent challenger John Shaw and two for Jerry Sutphin, the Jefferson County commissioner who is running against Bouware in the Aug. 26 GOP primary.

And Varn, who was a good sport during the traditional ribbing that accompanies a Tiger Bay luncheon, got three write-in votes.

Tiger Bay is a non-partisan political group, but it leans a bit to the Democrat side. If Boulware can win big there, Vasilinda could have her hands full in November.

The District 8 candidates are up next week at Tiger Bay.
